🐾 A Note on Allergies & Animal Friends

Visiting Kriya House Comfortably

At Kriya House, we love to host gatherings that nourish the soul — through shared practices, stories, and sacred connections. We also share our home with a few beloved animal companions, including cats, ducks and occasional dogs. While they add a lot of joy to our lives, we recognize they can also stir up sensitivities for some of our guests.

As a host who personally deals with hay allergies and yet also volunteers with goats, chickens, and rabbits, I know firsthand what it’s like to navigate life around potential triggers. Thanks to a few simple holistic practices, I’ve been able to minimize and even eliminate most of my symptoms.

So if you’re someone who’s a little wary of visiting a home with cats or animal dander — we get it. And we want you to feel welcome, comfortable, and cared for.

🌱 How We Prepare for You

Before any large gathering, we do our best to make the space as allergy-friendly as possible:

  • We thoroughly vacuum and sweep to reduce dander and loose hair

  • We keep the cats out of shared food and practice areas during prep

  • We offer plenty of outdoor space for grounding, fresh air, and conversation (weather permitting, of course!)

🌿 Holistic Tips for Visiting with Allergies

If you’re sensitive to cats, here are a few natural supports we recommend — things we’ve used ourselves and trust:

Before You Come

Take Quercetin (500–1000 mg) with Vitamin C – a natural antihistamine combo that supports your immune system

Drink Stinging Nettle tea or take it in capsule form – great for respiratory relief

Take a probiotic with strains that reduce histamine reactivity (like Lactobacillus rhamnosus)

If you’re used to conventional antihistamines, you can absolutely take one proactively before your visit as well

👚 What to Wear

Opt for smooth fabrics (e.g., cotton or synthetics) that don’t trap dander

Wear something you can wash after visiting, just to be safe

😌 While You’re Here

Let us know if you’d like to stay mostly outdoors — we’ll make sure you have a cozy spot

Bring eye drops or a nasal spray if you know you get itchy or stuffy

Skip petting the cats (they won’t take it personally!)

Acute Relief Tips (No Allegra Needed)

  • Nasal rinse/neti pot 1–2x/day

  • Essential oils (eucalyptus or peppermint) in a diffuser or steamy shower

  • Homeopathic tablets like Sabadilla, Allium cepa, or Histaminum

🌼 Additional Options for Holistic Allergy Prevention

If you’re looking for extra support — especially during allergy season — here are a few additional natural remedies and practices you can explore:

🍯 Local Raw Honey (1 tsp/day)

Contains small amounts of local pollen and may help train your immune system to become less reactive over time.

💊 DAO Enzyme Supplements

DAO (diamine oxidase) is the enzyme responsible for breaking down histamine in the digestive tract. A good option if you’re sensitive to high-histamine foods like wine, aged cheese, or leftovers.

🍋 Vitamin C (1000–2000 mg/day)

Helps reduce histamine levels and supports your adrenals and immune system during allergy flare-ups.

🚰 Nasal Rinses or Neti Pots

Using a saline rinse once or twice a day helps flush out allergens from your nasal passages and prevent congestion.

🌬️ Essential Oils

Diffusing or inhaling oils like eucalyptus, peppermint, or tea tree may open sinuses and calm inflammation.

🍽️ Avoid High-Histamine Foods

Especially around gatherings, you may want to avoid:

  • Aged cheeses
  • Fermented foods
  • Alcohol
  • Vinegar
  • Leftovers over 24–48 hours old
🧘 Daily Grounding & Nervous System Regulation

Chronic stress can make allergies worse. Gentle movement, breathwork, or even simply walking barefoot on the earth can help your body regulate.
