History

The first life of this bus was as a schoolbus for a pre-school. It had 500 miles on it when it was purchased in 2015 from a couple who converted it from a schoolbus to a living space. In 2019, mother and child (9)  lived in it for one year in Jefferson County, Colorado, parking it in various locations in the greater Denver area for school and work. During summer break, we took it on vacation to Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and shorter trips around Colorado. Since then, we have leased it out to three friends. One friend was trying out van-life and used it to go climbing in Nevada, Utah, and New Mexico. Another friend ran into housing insecurity and stayed in it while he saved money and found a new situation. A third friend used it to go camping with his newly homeschooled child. I would like to continue to lend it out to friends who would take care of it and make the most of it. It is currently comprehensively insured, and with just a little bit more, it could be a “business” and I could lease it out for cash.

It is currently listed on the marketplace for a sum of $30,000. In the meantime, it is available for rent. Because of the state of the world, it is priced on a sliding scale flexible range. That’s the Spread-Love way. Depending on how long you want to use it, how far you want to take it, what your trustability is, and what your circumstances are, the rates can range fro $50-$200 per day.

What is life like in the bus?

If you are adventurous, , open-minded, adaptable, minimalist, and easy-going, you’ll be just fine in the bus!  Although the rooftop emergency exit creates decent ventilation letting hot air escpae, in general the hot and cold temperatures are something to be reckoned with. The legality of each jurisdiction is something to be considered. With internet/cell service, you’re able to look up the local laws of each specific town regarding sleeping in vehicles. It’s important to get a good nights rest, so knowing which towns outlaw sleeping in your vehicle will keep your nights peaceful and uninterrupted. BLM land and national forest trailheads are the best, legal places to stay. In more urban areas, the options are big box store parking lots (unless specific signage prohibits it), hospital parking lots (but you might hear sirens), and 24 hour fitness lots. We usually parked in a quiet neighborhood next to a privacy fence so as not to bother any homeowners, or near apartments where you could blend into street parking.

Cooking in a small space means there’s less to clean up. However, setting up and putting away the cooking appliance every time motivates you to simply eat food that doesn’t require heating up. As a mom, stir fry and other hot dishes are a necessity for the child, so the extra effort is appreciated.
